Landscaping Tips to Keep in Mind When Building a New Construction Home

Ben and Annie's Landscaping with New Construction Homes

At Ben & Annie’s Trees for Tomorrow, our team is dedicated to replanting all of the trees that are displaced due to home construction in an effort to promote sustainable development through cleaner air and vibrant public spaces—a mission that we began after our partner company, Weston Dean Custom Homes, came into existence. Building a new construction home is an incredibly exciting time in every homeowner's life—and it offers up the opportunity to completely create an outdoor landscaping environment that fits your personality perfectly. As you begin making plans for your new construction home, it’s important to also take the time to think about your outdoor space as well.

Make a list of priorities

Once you’ve selected the size and layout of your home on your lot—you’ll then need to think how you plan to use your outdoor space. Do you want the option to add in a pool area or large entertaining setup? Are you hoping for enough space to play sports in your backyard? Are there certain views that you want to make sure you don’t cover up with your landscaping efforts? Get your loved ones involved and together, make a list of each and every priority that you want your backyard to uphold.

Don’t forget about budgeting

Sometimes, your sole financial focus is on the actual home itself when you’re building your new house—but it’s important to also remember to budget for your landscaping needs such as sod and an irrigation system. Figure out if what you’re hoping to do will need some professional guidance, and see if you need to also include a budget for a Landscape Architect as well—and revise your plans as needed in order to stay well within your allotted funds.

Create a strong foundation

In order to have a finished landscaping design that is beautiful and vibrant—it is especially important to have a good foundation in order to make keeping up your gardening and yard maintenance easier in the future. Since you will be building a new construction home, you can focus your efforts right away on soil health before you bring in anything else. Don’t be afraid to ask your builder questions about black soil depths in the lot and what is expected after the final build—the deeper the black soil, the better.

Create your own oasis

Building a new construction home is an exciting time, especially if you are taking the custom route and truly creating the home you’ve always dreamed of owning—and that excitement also enters into your landscaping efforts. At Ben & Annie’s Trees for Tomorrow, we have always set our focus on educating as many individuals as possible on valuable lessons that focus on bettering our communities through local conservation efforts—and creating your own landscaping that brings as much natural foliage to the space as possible is one way you can do that.
